Trick to making Python siphon?

I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid. But I bought a Python water vac with a really long hose - like 80 ft. But when I connect it and try to get the water out, the water is pulled out really really sloooooowly. So to do a 50% water change on my 30 gallon, it can take about an hour. That just doesn't seem right.

What's the trick to making a good faster siphon? I've tried tightening the connections, starting with an empty hose, starting with a full hose...

duh...:help:

can you try a different faucet?

check the venturi and make sure theres nothing blocking the holes like a piece of plastic that was not punched out during production.

If you do not have "a bunch of water" coming out of the faucet to which the Python is attached you will experience slow suction.

If your discharge elevation is much higher than the water surface in your tank you will experience slow suction.

I use two different sections depending which tank i siphon, when i clean the 29 gal, total length is a little over 50 feet, and i can suck it dry in less than 10 min..........:)

I think the faucets water flow is of some import. I jsut changed faucets on my sink a month or two ago and it made a HUGE difference in flow. When you start emptying do it with an empty hose. As soon as it goes over the hump in the hose (where the hose goes intot he tank) gravity will help too. A short pull to the water pump thingy adn you should be in business.

And as others have said, make sure everything is tight and there are no blockages.

Remove the aereator in the faucet head if you haven't.

I just drain out the nearest window/door with my Python. If you do not have to, why waste water to get water out...?

or let it drain into the bathtub.

These are all really great suggestions...It's just one of those things - instead of "ok! now to do a water change!" it's "oh great, another freaking water change. There goes my day..."

I'll keep trying...thanks!
