I finally got one of my new 55's running. There is a pile of rocks on one side, then a pile of driftwood on the other, with plants (anubias nana and coffeola, combomba, java moss) scattered through out. Current occupants: 3 whiptails (one breeding pair, one loner male), 4 peppered cories, 2 skunks (more buddies on the way), one chocolate pleco, one butterfly pulcher, one weather loach. The tank will be kept around 68-74F. Filtration is an AC300, sponge media. 196W of light (right now it's split 5,600K and an actinic that's going to be swapped out for something in the right range), laterite substrate. Water parameters are stable, but will change a bit when I get the CO2 going. Normally, CO2 puts my water at a pH of about 6.9, GH -11, KH - 9.

What I am looking for are some medium sized fish that will occupy the middle to upper levels of the tank. Something like an angel, that won't freeze it's fins off in the cooler water. I'm not interested in a school of fish, so white clouds are out. I'd prefer to have a pair, but a single fish would work as well if compatible.

Raising the temp is not an option--I want the whiptails, loach and cories to be happy. If there isn't a larger mid/upper water fish that will work, then I'll pick up a flock of white clouds and call it good.

Thanks!

How about these choices here OG?
Jordanella floridae (flag fish)
Fundulus chrysotus (golden topminnow)
These are both Great American fish, that would do fantastic in your home. :)
But I believe the GTM would be the best choice a pair of these would be a beautiful addition, reaching the max (i believe) at 4 inches. And in the right light they would just sparkle in your tank.
