I have a massive java fern I want to ship from Cincinnati to a friend in Boston. What's the best way to package and ship plants? Do I need to overnight? 2 day?

Another consideration right now - it is extremely cold here. Does that present additional concerns?

I searched the forum before posting, but I somehow missed that post.

Are java ferns hardy enough to ship this time of year? Do they require heat pack? If so - what is a good brand and where can I purchase?

What the sticky says.

But also,

The "best" way and the "good enough" way are kind of different.

Good enough: USPS Priority Mail with "Perishable" stamped on it. Using priority mail, I say heat packs are required. In a heavy cold front, maybe. Generally, they are always on the go, and it's doubtful the package gets too cold.
