So sorry to hear of your loss, it is always so hard to loose someone you love and a pet that you have taken care of for that long is definatly someone you love. Just take comfort in the thought you gave your kitty a good life, and keep your memories of him/her.

Sorry to here about your loss. I had a cat that died at 17 also. We were the same age me and Rebel. Was a gray cat. He used to come to my bed, after calling his name, and give me a back message. Now i have a cat that my wife brought to my house that looks and acts just like him. But i need to train him to do back messages.
Tell us a story about Annie. I find telling stories about the lost ones helps.

I had to put down my cat, Muffin, after 22 years. Was the hardest thing I had to do ever. she was part of the family.. slept with me every night, and she was born in my closet...

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it is...My cat just died and now his sister is so lonely. It's a tragedy to lose any pet.

Oh, guys... your making me tear up here. It is so awesome to see so many animal (Other than just fish) lovers in here.
I am sorry to hear about Annie. I think (from personal experience) I cry just as hard when I loose a cat as I do when I loose a human. That connection is just unreal.
we personally had 6 cats at my parents house (do to all of us "adult Kids" moving back home at the same time with all of our own cats, one giving birth shortly after bringing us up to 9.) 5 of them where mine and I lost 2 of the kittens after about 1 year do to cancer. It hurts so bad (and we paid to try surgery for each one to see if there was a chance at either of them being saved. Now 1500.00 broker and down 2 kittys, I am just left with a whole bunch of memories. One of them still graces my cell phone screen saver. He smiles back at me everytime I go to make a phone call. Forever in my memory. I moved out and still have my other 3, and boy oh boy are they ever soooo special. I dread the day when I loose another one.
I can't tell you how sorry I am about Annie. It always hurts to loose the ones we love (human or not). The best thing I can say is cherish that fact that she went in her sleep. I only wish my 2 babies had gone that way. Much nicer I think. More peaceful for all of us.
I think tears are falling for Annie all around! :(
Hang in there!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
