i bought some hornwort for my guppy fry to hide form their mothers in, and i stuck it in a qt for 2 weeks before i stuck it in my 10 gallon. but there were hitch hikers on it. now i have about 20 baby snails in that tank. is there any way to get rid of them before they start chewing away at my plants and multiplying?

most snails dont eat plants. they can go after dead plant matter but alive ones they shouldnt touch.

if you over feed they will spawn. try leaving some veggies in the tank and pick them out one by one.

It's going to be difficult trying to have a planted tank without snails because there's nowhere to get plants minus the snails. Once they're in there, you're pretty much stuck with them.

You can introduce a yoyo loach. it will eat all the snails.

its a 10 gal tank. the loach maybe a bit big for it. i am just trying to get fry about .5 inch long so i can drop them in my oscars tank as a treat. maybe doing a generation change every 6 months

adding fish most of the time is not a good idea to fix problems like that.

you can use a clean soda bottle and put some veggie (lettuce, cucumber) inside, put it in at lights out and check it a couple hours later. Remove any snails caught and repeat. Increased gravel vacs and decreased feedings should keep the numbers in check as they usually only readily reproduce with a food source (decaying plants, leftover fish food, algae, etc).

i dont mind a few snails because i can smash their shells and feed charles with them. the guppies dont eat much and the coreys usually take care of everything else. thanks for all of the suggestions
