What is this stuff that grows on my aquarium walls? It's white and looks furry, and if I let it it'll grow long. Is it algae? Why can't I get normal algae? Waah.

Sounds more like fungus. I've seen it from time to time. I've used Jungle - Fungus Clear with limited success.

good luck

I favor a more holistic approach than using meds, but famman's diagnosis is on the money. Fungus grows like that often when overfeeding occurs...try cutting down on food first and then try the medicinal treatments if the holistic one doesn't work.

Potassium permanganate is an oxidizer that discourages fungus and algae and degrades completely, leaving some manganese oxides.
