Ok so right now i have 30# live rock and 30# base rock, I have decided that this is not enough filtration that I would want in my tank. I have 2 options that i would like to try, either i can spend like 80 dollars to get 30 pounds more of live rock or i could swap a powerhead for a penguin 350B filter, this would give me 50 more GPH than im getting now and i would get more filtration, i have used the 350 before on freshwater tanks and i like it alot.

Welcome to the world of reef. You will NEVER have extra $ again. It is always something, upgrade, new fish, rock, salt water.. welcome to the dark side.:angryfire:

Agreed, I just paid $170 on two fish. I put a hold on coral until after restocking my 75g.

I would switch the base rock for the live rock. Honestly, I think you may be packing it in with 90 lbs in a 60 gallon tank. You won't be leaving much room for growth. If it were me, I'd stick to ~60 lbs of rock (give or take) and save money for a more effective powerhead. There are plenty out there that can far outdo a mere penguin 350 and won't be so bulky in the process. You can get them for cheaper prices, too.

Oh, I was thinking more of an LFS retail price. However, if you look at gph/$, there are still better options. I would personally look into the Tunze nanostream 6025. They run approx $63 and normally output around 600+ gph. If you modify that (very easy to do), you can get 1200 gph + of very soft, diffuse flow and only consume ~7w. They also come with Tunze's great magnet holders that do NOT fall off, as well as a great warranty, service, etc. from Tunze. I have 4 of them modded plus a modded Tunze stream 6100, all are great pumps. The normal streams are absurdly priced, though.

As far as the rock goes, you don't have to listen to what I said :). That was more of an opinion than anything, though I think it could help you in the long run. I recommend the powerhead more than anything, honestly. If you don't have anywhere to put the base rock, then ignore what I said. I usually assume that there are plenty of people around that want these things, as there are in my area.

Looks like some coraline and possibly vermitid snails or formaniferans.
