I have 2 filters running in my tank, the Fluval FX5 as well as the Fluval 405. While my tank is crystal clear, the water levels are good, and the fish seem content, I want to know if I will ever run into trouble with my intake/output positioned the way they are.

Should I have one of each on both sides of the tank, or both intakes on one side and the outputs on the other?

Here is a rough diagram of the way I set them up:

You really think that anyone will address the "ever run into trouble"???:nono::nono::Angel::Angel:

IMHO you are on the right track.

Your schematics are a good way to start.

The ultimate configuration will probably not be your first configuration.

Your ultimate configuration will probably be based on experimentation with respect to your plants and fish.

For me, both discharges should be in the center and the suctions at either end.

y n the world do u have a fluval404 if u have a FX5?? FX5 alone will push 400g..i bet your water is crystal clear!..

Believe it or not I bought the 405 (got a good deal on it) just to create more surface movement. But yes, ended up with a tank where it looks like the fish are suspended in air.

This thread is basically to find out if I'm creating a problem (such as air build up in the canisters) by having an output and intake on the same side of the tank.

awesome i want an FX5 so bad!...i dont think so! but u could try to angel the outflow towards the center of the tank!

Your setup looks PERFECT to me. Flow dynamics are my thing kinda and in my humble opinion you're set up great. I'm picky too but I'd set it up very similar.
