I sometimes wonder if you guys that live in states realise how lucky you are in regards to the expense of your hobby. Apart from having a MUCH wider range of products and brands... the prices you get over there are ridiculously cheap compared to over here! (or from what Ive seen anyways)
Dont get me started on the fact that Puffers are illegal here  And the aquariums around here are few and far between.. and most are so crap you wouldnt bother anyways.
I should never have started reading OS forums.. I didnt know the world of fish and products that existed outside this country... now i want it all!!! :grinyes:

Where are you located? I understand how you feel about the selection of fish. LOL..I also have to learn to tolerate the selection and price tags.:perv:

Yerp... I understand this... doesnt help my wallet any tho :p: More than the price its the lack of stuff here that annoys me.. Id never even seen anything like any of these before.. we only get plain wooden stands/modern wood or the acrylic bow front tanks... some of these are awesome! http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pet_supplies.cfm?c=3578+3730
That tuscan tank is insane! :)
We can add it all to the long list of reasons why I want to move to the states :D

I don't think I would move across the ocean for a tank stand, but thats neither here or there....
We can't take any more of you guys here!!!!
Do you know how hard it was to pick up girls at the bar, when I was single (married now but my brothers need some too), when a bunch of Aussie and Irish guys are here in Chicago during the summer on work visas! Stay home, go backpacking, go see the reef, or the cricket matches....

Lol I meant the extra fish stuff... not just a tank in general... and its only one of the many reasons.. I spent two months in the states a few years ago and absolutely loved it.

yep, i would agree, uk suffers an 'island economy' where many things are more expensive
in US $ here's what it would cost to set up a planted 50g (new):
Juwel tank with cabinet: $600
Eheim 2217: $160
60lbs Eco Completed: $150
Additional lighting (it comes with 30W t5): $100
Basic Plants: $50 - $100, call it $50
Seachem Prime 500ml $30
JBL Easy Start CO2: $300
API Master Test Kit $40
Other Bits and Bobs: $20
So, to start up a 50g from scratch for high tech planted your looking at $1550...(i buy a lot of stuff second hand off eBay!!!)
Niko...I don't know how you afford reef man!

Nick an Eheim 2217 here goes for a lot more than that.. if you are lucky you can buy a second hand one for that price on ebay.
Im not sure what an Api master kit goes for... but i know I just bought their nitrate test kit last week and paid $18 US for it alone.
What I couldnt get over was the price of root tabs... I found them here for $78 US for 40!!! I was in shock.. then saw them online in the states for $20!! for exactly the same brand and all!
