Hi,

I purchased an American Marine Pinpoint Wireless Thermometer about a week ago, and I'm beginning to be concerned about its accuracy.

I am using it for my 90g acrylic tank that has two Marineland 250w Stealth heaters sitting horizontal, one on each side of the tank.

The heaters are both set to 78° yet the Pinpoint Wireless Thermometer has been displaying temperatures from between 82° to 82.8°.

I have had many people tell me that the Stealth heaters are pretty accurate which makes me wonder if the thermometer is off? I was wondering if there is some sort of calibration that needs to take place that I am unaware of?

Oh yeah, and I have relocated the thermometer sensor to various depths with no change.

Thanks for any help.

I have two Pinpoint Wireless modules for the tanks in the unfinished side of my basement. It allows me to monitor the temps with the main display unit in the finished side.

I found both modules accurate. They gave nearly the same reading as the small digital thermometers they replaced.

I don't believe any of my heater dials are anywhere close to accurate. I have two Stealths and both are way off (e.g., One Stealth is set at 76 to maintain a temp of 79).

You must also be aware that the heat generated by canisters and in-tank power heads also raises the temp. So you may find out that if you unplug your two Stealths, the temp may still be 82.
