1 of the 2 inch jack dempsys that my lfs had yesterday has a new home. before the flames start i have 7 people waiting on free fish from my 55g. plus just emailed a guy from gl on another tank. what i will have left is 7 blood fin tetras 2 picus catfish 1 upside down catfish 1 flame gouromi 1 drarf gouromi 1 butterfly loach how long do i have to get another tank? this guy has a complete 75g for 100.00:grinyes: if i can get it. p.s this is the first time i have ever seen the baby jacks at any of the 3 lfs in my area thats why i got 1.

I don't think the gouramis will appreciate the company of the JD and vice versa, with the gourami the loser...while the otherer fish occupy a different zone or are small non-competitors I think again if it comes to it the JD as adult will knock 'em off as he sees fit. They (JD's) are best kept with similarly inclined cichlids...so its not so much space (subject to filtration), as it is compatibility. JD's are not good community fish...if you're moving out the other fish though that's a whole other story, and you likely have some time before the dempsey gets from being curious to murderous lol.

I would still grab the 75g though - if in good condition seems like a nice price. And you can put your JD in there and collect some more south americans :D

now that my secret is out, love my little jd. it is has 10 times the color it hat in the store. not bothering anything yet, chase's the tetras a little. tried the angel but it gave it a couple good punts ended that in a hurry. i hate to see my balas go they are so cool but theres no way i can have a tank that big.

didn't notice the angel in your stocking - as said up there already, the JD is not going to work out medium to long term in your current stock.

but yeah they're cool fish :) give it a couple of weeks and you will really see the colours.

i don't know those filters so won't comment - your water change regime is fine.

the prob is compatibility as between the JD and the fish in your tank - the JD is likely to kill most of them off.

thats what ive read. its current size is the only reason i got it. but it did speed up rehoming my balas and com pleco plus anthor reason for another tank. lfs's had only had full grown ones before didnt want to go that route.
