I have a number of oceanic 24 gallon tanks at my disposal now and I am debating trying to set up a centralized filtration system.
I know I cannot drill tempered glass, but I do not know a good way to tell if glass is tempered or not....
How would one be able to tell if not asking the manufacturer or salesperson as these are used tanks.

you might want to stay on the safe side and just drill the back of them about an inch from the bottom.
It might be worth sending Oceanic an email to ask, even though they're used tanks. Not sure how good they are at retuning emails, but it's worth a shot.
I want to say that Oceanic uses tempered bottoms, but I could be wrong - it's happened once before :)

I was planning on drilling the backs instead of the bottoms anyways.
I was under the impression that if tempered glass was used it was used for all sides. Or is this JUST the bottoms that tempered glas is used on? I am somewhat at a loss as my knowledge of tank construction isn't quite that advanced.
I'm also looking for the oceanic support email address. I believe they have a facility here in Dallas in which case I might try to look up a support phone number too.
I have mostly acrylic tanks, but I believe that tempered glass is only used for the bottom panel.
You can email Oceanic Customer Service at: customerservice@oceanicsystems.com
and their address is:
11839 Shiloh Road
Dallas, TX 75228
...at least that's the info they list on their web site.
