my kids were thrilled!! we ordered java moss from a seller on aquabid, not only did we get soooooo much of it, but he asked if I wanted some snails. I said sure we have some already any ways. so when these came today we were thrilled!! there big, and so pretty. what the heck are they and what do I need to feed them? I dropped a few large bottom feeder discs is that ok?

those are red ramshorns, they will eat leftover foods, veggies, algae, dying plant matter etc. I don't typically target feed mine. They lay their eggs in gelatinous blobs on plants, tank walls, etc.

thank you, I will go read up on them now. They are in my..... hospital tank I set up for my fish which did not get used fast enough.:wall: now its set up for healthy fish and the other 10 gallon will be hospital!

wow so fish will eat these, well my fish will have a hay day if they breed. very good info out there, and there very pretty. can I have apples with them or is this a no no ? thanks for all the info I appreciate all your help. I see there eating the duckweed I put in there, thats good LOL!

You can keep them with apple snails for sure, and with your cherry shrimp and with anything really. My betta snacks on the bitty ones but most of my other fish (all tropical community types) leave them alone. I do squish my pond snails for snacks for the fish, but I find the ramshorns to be really attractive and intentionally spread them to other tanks. I have some "leopard" colored ramshorns too which are also nice although not as vibrant. I think ramshorns are one of those "happy accidents" which commonly occur in planted tanks. Yours are a lovely vibrant red, mine are more orange.

This guy was awsome! I bid on guppy grass, thinking it was java moss. he said... ok I will send you java moss instead. he said. would you like a snail to for free? I said oh yes, my children would love that to, so he sent 9. his user name is badflash and he has awsome feedback. I will be ordering more from him! They are all doing fine, and all attached to the tank.

How big are they? I only ask because I'm trying to idetify what came with my new plants recently. Their shells look kind of like ramshorns but they're really tiny.
