My Apple Snail (Mr.Snail) is doing something wierd. I just got a new Apple Snail today, and its a bit smaller then he is. Anyway, he found the new snail pretty quick (can they smell each other?) and they were "touching" each other with their "feelers" but then, Mr. Snail start moving his foot and moving the gravel and he has now dug a pit in the gravel the size of him! I first thought he was burying himself but now I have no clue what he is doing. The smaller snail has now moved away and is exploring but Mr.Snail is still in this pit doing whatever he is doing. Is he agitated or just excited about the new snail or what?? He has been alone for about 2 months now so I thought I would get a friend for him. Anyone know whats going on?? Thanks!

i don't know. I have one brig that does this as well. Some apple snails go into a "hibernation" type period where they bury themselves inthe substrate. Has your temp in your tank changed or anything other than the new addition?

Nope nothing...it was so weird because AS SOON as he found that other snail he just started to dig this pit and he sat there all night. When i put in an algae wafer he didn't do much but then i just gently moved him from the pit and put him right beside the wafer and then he started to crawl around and eat and hasn't dug another pit but maybe he will when hes done eating?? No clue what hes doing haha...

Maybe he's diggin a grave, and when the lights go out, he's gonna have the new snail whacked!

Probably some sort of mating ritual, watch for eggs?
