Hi everyone. My yo yo loach loses color for a few minutes then it comes back. I read on these boards about loss of color from sickness but it seems fine and the color loss only lasts a few minutes. Should I be concerned?:eek3: thanks

If it is doing well, I see no reason to worry about it.

Sometimes they lose color as part of a dominence display or fight, no big deal.

Thank you guys for all your replies! These loaches have been a handful. Once I was doing tank maintenance. I took a plant out and laid it down on newspaper for a while. When I went to put it back in I found a loach sitting on the paper:22_yikes:! It swam away and seems fine but I always wonder if he suffered damage!

Then I kept seeing them lay down on their sides freaked me out! I Read on these forums that's normal also weird!

They have definitely been my most stressful fish so far but very entertaining.

I have learned so much from these forums and everyone has been so helpful. So I want to say thanks! I don't know how people kept tanks before the INTERNET!

For some reason only one of mine loses its color when it sleeps.

I've got 5 yoyos and 8 striata in my 75. The yoyos' color intensity changes whenever they change their state - playing, active, inactive, chasing, chased, messing with the gouramis, messing with each other, exploring, sleeping. I look at it like blinking. (Incidentally, My opaline gourami does more or less the same thing. He's pale blue when he's sleeping or fighting, and he gets his scribbles back when he's awake or happy.)

I've noticed that my Botia kubotai also pale out when they do the loachy dance. They go from mahogany to tan while they fight, and then go right back to normal once one of them has had enough.
