Hi, i have a MCE600 skimmer which has been up and running now for 14months approx with no problems until the last week or so.

What is happening is that it is not skimming at all,i have cleaned the skimmer and the air intake valve, but still no skim.

The pump inside the box is working ok, but nothing is getting to the skimmer cup.
Anyone got any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks.
Liz.

I wish I had one of the Deltec HOB skimmers so I could help with specifics but I can try and break it down.

Is it forming bubbles in the chamber at all? If not I'd start with looking at the pump to make sure everything is clean in there, positioned correctly etc.

I don't know if this can be set to a wetter skim, or dryer skim however If its forming bubbles in the chamber but they aren't getting high enough to get into the collection cup I'd look at trying to tune that to a little wetter of a setting.

I really am reaching for straws here but I hth.

Did you try wiping the inside down, etc.? If it gets coated badly, it won't skim. Did anything happen recently, like an invertebrate spawn (or maybe it occurred without your knowledge). That can make them stop for a while. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Deltec's HOB, only their recirculating, in-sump models. I assume it has a tube or some sort of intake other than the valve. You'll want to rinse that well to make sure salt doesn't creep into it. Also, where the air actually enters the pump, you'll want to clear that out. A bent paper clip works well for this. If all else fails, you can either wait for someone with experience with the MCE models or you can email Marvin of D-D products at marvin@theaquariumsolution.com . He is now the primary US rep of D-D.

perhaps the pump is working or sounds like its working. have you checked out the propellor yet? any breakage on the propellor could cause it to not suck water, but still turn on and sound like its working. is there any water at all being sucked in?
