I just ordered a 2x55w light kit and 30" enclosure for my 29g. I assume I just need to get a glass canopy and the lighting enclosure should just sit directly ontop of that? Do I need anything else like arms to lift it up?

What's the word on glass canopies... all kinds pretty much the same?

You can get glass cut to fit for cheap at a local glass shop. 1/8" regular glass should do. You can rest the fixture on top but you want to make sure you have good lamp clearance and adequate ventilation. Fans would be a good idea too.
You could go with tempered glass to be safer, but that will probably cost you some $$$.

I use AH Supply- but make my own boxes using their plans. They are vented at the top and I have modified the design to attach the ballast on the outside on the back. They then sit almost on top of the glass in that they rest on the tank frame. Heat is not a problem. From what I can tell their boxes are fully enclosed, if so they could allow for heat buildup. If so you may want to modify them for cooling. This would mean making holes somewhere and also perhaps adding a small fan. I suggest you call them and ask what they suggest in this matter as they are always most helpful with customer Qs.

You can buy glass canopies at Petsmart, Petco, or just about any online aquarium site.
Twotank, any pics of your canopy, getting ready to build one for my tank using AH lights.

I just purchased the coralife 65watt light and the glass tops for my 29. you must be doing CO2 with the light you ordered. I will be having glass cut tomorrow for my 10 gallon tank. no more ordering when i can have my own made. I will just be hot gluing marbles in a row to open the glass piece I am having made ( 2 pieces for my ten gallon tank. one for the light and a smaller one cut so I can open it up.

Yep I'm going to be hooking up automated co2, thanks to generous Uncle Sam. I am jealous of all these pearling pics I see all the time. :)

When I ordered the premade enclosure, I didn't look close enough to realize it doesn't open in the front (for feeding and maintenance). I wish the front half of it would flip up. I hate gravel vacuuming without the tank lights on, because if I suck a fish eyeball out I'll be mortified! I don't have the space (live in an appartment) or equipment to build my own, so I guess I'll just deal with it. :)

i just bought the exact same setup you bought and let me be the first to tell you "you will love these down to every last penny".i to don't like that you can't open the canopy but have to take it off when feeding and cleaning.
