Hi Friends !

I got a few plants of Valisneria, but in all the plants the leaves are decayed and brown. Will the plants grow to normal if I plnt them ? Should I cut and trim the leaves and the plant the roots ?

How deep should I plant the roots in the substrate ?

Kindly guide me...
Thanks !
Kush

I am no expert by any means, but from personal experience and suggestions on here: you should get rid of any dead leaves and plant it with the crown above substrate. when I got my Vals few weeks ago they started melting and fine folks here at AC encouraged me to stick with it and sure enough the new leaves grew and one of them is already sending runners in the sand.

You can cut the leaves off to about an inch away from the roots, and plant the root so that the rhizome is slightly above the substrate. Keep checking on the root weekly to make sure it does not rot. I had my vals also turn brown and die and after cutting the tops mine grew back in about 1 month, also if your val has healthy white roots then it has a higher chance of growing back faster.

Hi Friends...

Thanks for the replies and for caring....

Actually I'm a little doubtful if what I have is a Val... Kindly help me identify the plant correctly ...

Hi there...

I dont have a cam now but will be getting one soon :)

The leaves are elongate and slippery... they're very flat and are like a closely pressed-bunch arising out of the roots...

I think yes... something like one of the last 3... also in all the plants I had to cut most of the leaves into half as the upper half was decayed... is this ok ? will the leaves still be functional and survive ?

Can this plant grow in low light ?

I have mine growing in 20 watts of light in a 30 gallon so your lighting is not the problem.

I believe as long as the roots are kept in tact (like bk explained) they should grow back.

you have 90w over 50g,

you have medium, not low light, they will grow well
