I have a beautiful Tiger lotus in my 75 with ferts, CO2, and mid lighting, I ussually keep it short, but recently have decided to see if I can get a bloom out of them. Does anyone know what it is that causes the Tiger lotus to bloom?

The more leaves out the higher of a chance you have it to bloom.
I have noticed that the first leaves it puts out stay low to the ground and remain small, the next few leaves will stay mid tank and will be really huge, the next few leaves will be floating and once the plant has enough leaves out then it may start blooming.
Its similar to aponogeton, once many leaves are out it starts to bloom.
Im testing the similar "theory" with my banana plant, it already has 8 big leaves out and the next one thats coming out, the stem is already taller than all the other stems, so will see if it decides to send a runner up and bloom.

both my lotus and aponogeton are sending up stems to the surface. aponogetons have already bloomed few times and the lotus just sent the first floating leave to the surface. I am so excited as this is all happening with my poor lighting, no co2 or ferts.

mszumins, the leaves will actually go faster towards the surface to float in a low light tank since the plant is trying to compensate for the lack of lighting and is sending leaves to the surface to absorb as much light as it can. Good luck on yours.
