Hi Friends !

How do I control small snails in my tank... Will clown loaches do the job ?
I have a few upside down catfishes in the tank, do I still need to put the clown loaches in ?

Also will apple snails eat plants ?

Kindly advice...

cut back on feedings and remove manually. i wouldnt add a fish to fix this little problem you have. apple snails are fine with plants

I agree with Mg. No fish just to remove snails especially since clown loaches need larger tanks and other botias will still need to meet other requirements.

Cut back on feedings and remove manually. Try placing letture in the tank overnight. In the morning, just remove it. It should be covered in snails...

NO,NO, NO , get a clown loch, they will control the snalls, if you have a snall problem teh clown lochs will eat the snall, but not all, thats what i used in my 55gal. and it worked fine

Problem - you're advocating adding a very large fish to the OP's tank without any knowledge of the tank size or current inhabitants. Bad idea.

Stick with manual removal - often buying fish to "fix" a problem ends in trading one issue for another.

As mentioned, you can make a snail "trap". Add the lettuce or some other vegetable to a small bottle and place it on it's side on the bottom of the tank overnight. In the morning, a large amount of snails will be in the bottle. Remove it, get rid of the snails, and continue to do this.

Clown Loaches get to big, and as long as you have a 100+ gallon tank, don't even get one. Plus they live in shoals.

I don't think upside down catfishes eat snails..

Get yoyos, kulis, or skunk loaches, 3-4 in a shoal.

DO NOT put another fish in your tank to control snails....its was easier and MUCH cheaper to set traps or to just feed less. I had a pretty large population on MTS's I cut back on food and they arent so bad now.

I concur on adding new fish, this being if you have the tank room and non-aggressive fish, why not branch out and try out loaches.

my 2 cents; I've added a green pea puffer, it can't handle the adults but will prevent any increase in population, this as mentioned above, is only if it's appropriate for the other inhabitants, GPP tend to be fin nippers, I had minor fin damage on corys but plecos, apistos, cardinals, rasboras, ottos, SAE's were left alone . . . yet another opinion/option.

the food trap is the cheapest

good luck

clown loaches grow extremely slow once they hit the 5" mark. it will take YEARS for them to get to full size. thats why they are nearly triple the price if you can find any that are over 4-5".
