I got new light fixture for my tank. It came with 2 eclipse fluorescent ultra daylight bulbs. They are definately brighter than the junk I had, but they are very yellow. What bulbs can I get that are bright but not yellow? I don't have a planted tank, but would like to promote healthy green algae instead of the brown I have been stuck with.

Your description makes me think that you have 6800K growlight type bulbs.

As Mg stated 10000K bulbs will generate white light.

Ok, I found one 10000k bulb at my lfs today. I hooked it up with one of the 6500k bulbs. Definately looks better now. Thank you all.

my next question. My daughter is begging me to put a blacklight in the fixture along with the white light. Has anyone done this? And what is usually the result?

Dunno, guess she thinks the fish will glow, but I don't think glowing goldfish(which is still what I have in the tank) sounds very pretty.:grinyes:

Just get a blue cold cathode light, will give her close to what she wants and they look good and are functional.

Folks:

My experience (although based on only four months) is that my fishies appear to be doing better (which is very, very qualitative) with
eight white and eight blue LED lights as well a two 7100K 65W bulbs.
