hello all! i am setting up a 90 gallon tank, and i really want to add an undergravel jet system with a powerhead. now from what i have read, i should have at least 6 jets in the 90 to insure proper water flow. my question is, do they have a powerhead strong enough to supply proper flow through 6 jets? i really dont want to have 2 powerheads in the tank if i can avoid it. so i was thinking that if i get one powerhead with like a 900 gph, that may be able to adequeatly supply my 6 jets! what do you guys think?

hi guys! i am setting up a 90 gallon tank, and i want to put an undergravel jet system in it. i have read that for a 90 gallon, i would need to use about 6 jets to insure optimum water flow over the gravel surface. my question is: is there a powerhead strong enuff to operate the 6 jets, or would i have to put in 2 powerheads, and split the jets 3 on one, and 3 on the other? i am trying to avoid having 2 pumps in the tank if possible. thanx in advance!

use a mag12 on a closed loop.
Do you not want the two power heads for looks or other reasons i have to power heads in a 30g. I would personally go with 2 that way if one shuts down at least the other can act as a back up till you get a new one or the broken one running.

Yeah, a closed loop with an exterior pump would be great. powerheads arent that strong. and, they'd look ugly.

i did a little research on the mag 12, and it says that it is designed for ponds. at 1200gph, would that create too much current in a 90 gallon fish tank?

nope, you could have a ton more current and depending on your fish have no problems, i've watched a molly swim upstream within a few inches of my little giant closed loop return(a little over 1300gph) after a flake.

pretty cool! now i can work on designing a layout for the undergravel jets

well you definatly have a point there, my 2 concerns where the looks, and i am trying to minimize the amount of electrical connections from the tank to my wall outlets

so just out of curiosity, do undergravel jet systems improve aeration of the water also?
