My new discus

well the new discus I have had for about two weeks or so are now pairing up. My lone discus (temporary: we plan on getting him a friend) is keeping to himself (Red Dragon). The blue discus chased him off and the solid orange discus I believe is female the pair they have been hanging out around the water filter tube. It seems they are cleaning it or something and doing some kind of dance; shiver or shake. Any ideas about this behavior? The fish are doing well including the Black Neons and Farlowellas. My wife and I are going to get another Discus this weekend. Need some more plants.

They are definitely displaying spawning behavior by "shivering" and "dancing"and cleaning the filter intake tube. Discus seem to love the filter intake tube even when there's spawning cones in the tank! When you get more discus, remember....QT, QT, QT!:grinyes:

QT? Well......I guess that's new for me. But guess what, she laid her eggs last night! On the filter intake! What do I do now? Reconsider getting a new discus or not? Do I need to put a barrier up? Do I need another tank? Oh boy?!:eek:
 
What other fish are in that tank?
 
Its amazing to watch, isn't it? My discus have spawned 3 times since valentine's day. They're not always overly sucessful on their first try, but to what I read, they usually figure it out in the first few times. Keep an eye on them, and let us know how they're doing. :)
 
I recommend a 20 or 29 gallon breeding tank for the pair, with a sponge filter and a spawning cone.

It's all new to me and I am guessing for them also. So I am not sure if it is going to be successful. I need another tank. I am learning all the time. I am excited.:grinyes:
