I have been medicating my community tank (not a hospital tank) for the past 3 days with Maracyn (this will be the 4th day). The dosage is 1 tab per day for a 10 gallon tank. I have a 6 gallon eclipse system and am using the 1 tab per day.

Someone told me that I should be doing a 25% water change "each day" because it is a community tank I am medicating and not a hospital tank. They said that the medication concentration would be too high at the end of the 5 days and that this could kill the fish that were healthy.

The directions do not say to do a 25% water change each day, but I did start surfing around, and did come across something that validated his statement.

The Maracyn I think is not working too well, and I plan on using Maracyn 2 when this treatment is over. I will do a major water change at that time and waiting a day or two (before I start the Maracyn 2). Is it necessary to do this 25% change?

You can do a 25% water change at will provided you medicate the tank afterward. If its a daily change just do it before you drop the pill in. If its an emergency change just remedicate according to the percentage of water removed, i.e. a 50% change drop 1/2 tab in afterward.
Give the medicine a chance, I've had angelfish that took 6 or 7 days to fully recover.
And you can use the Maracyn and Maracyn Two together if you want. But if you do, a 25% daily or every other day water change may be in order.
good luck
