Is there anyway to sex these fish before they reach adulthood?

Not really, guess you will have to wait till the males are coloring up.

Venting is the only real way to tell before the males color up.

so thats why no one has peacocks that are juveniles, it all makes sense to me now.

It's not 100% accurate, but IME you can usually pick out a male or two in a batch. The more dominant male juveniles will usually be a little larger than their siblings and will be more aggressive/territorial.

Females are trickier. In the past when buying juveniles, I bought the 2 of the largest and 5 of the smallest to try for a trio...with mixed success. The females are usually, but not always, among the smaller fish.

Some people say they can also tell a male by fin shape or egg spots or color of the anal fin but in my experience this is not always accurate. I have females with lots of eggs spots and a bit of color on their anal fins.

Males will elongated and pointy anal and dorsal fins, where the females will not. Egg spots are a bad way to sex fish as both the males and females can have eggspots.
