at my lfs yesterday I saw several juvenile Tropheus duboisi, the black spotted kind. They were $10 apiece. Is this a good price? if so how many could I put in a 55 gallon to adulthood? Any special considerations?

I don't know much about them, but there are some information on them.

that is a great price in my areal. i paid 23 dollars for one duboisi, but every cichlid seems to be more expensive here.

you cannot, and this is very important, feed them meaty foods. they are strict vegetarians and they will get bloat if you feed them foods high in protein. they are supposed to do better in groups i believe, but i keep mine by itself and he is fine. go to www.duboisi.com to learn more about them and other tangiyikan cichlids. www.dubiosi.com (www.duboisi.com)

$10 a piece is a good price. I paid twice that! I'd buy 12 - 16 for a 55 gal tank assuming the tank is 4 feet long. If your tank is only 3 feet long I would recommend getting a larger tank before the fish reach full size or to avoid tropheus.

If you could import me a load of duboisi at that price of $10 a piece me and you could be millionaires. Their nearly £20 a time in the uk.

Anyone interested.

12-16 in a 55? I don't think so. Maybe half that would be good. That is a decent price for dubosis, but you can usually find them cheaper, they're a pretty common Tang, and fairly easy to spawn.
