I'm just wondering how to get these out of an odd curiosity...but without buying mint sets or any nonsense like that. I just want some plain old circulation grade specimens.

I used to get them working as a cashier for a grocery store. I'd have my manager watch as I exchanged them with my own paper money, so I wouldn't get accused of stealing. My husband brought home 20 one day, but I am not sure how he got them. I also got $2 bills from the store.
So definitely check with your local bank, and check with local stores too, because you never know.

We get $2 bills from the bank and use them to tip our bartenders when we hit the town.

Check out the flea market. I got a few rare ones there for little $.
Or ask the bank. I did once, and they only gave the new, uncirculated money.
