So I am getting lots of Ramshorns, I know I must be feeding well  but I also clean my tanks 3 times a week so there always clean . I was thinking of giving the fish some of these as they grow bigger ( today lots of babies that are just specs on the glass) Do I have to crush these? that just grosses me out!! Can I just toss a few in and will they eat them? I know MTS shells are to hard and I have a lot of those! I will not be putting them in my 55 gallon tank or my 29 gallon tank. there all in there own tanks. I just do not want to toss them in and the fish stick there noses up at them and then they populate my big tanks  The only snails going into the 29 tanks is mystery snails coming soon. I can control them I believe by removing the egg sacks that are above the water right?

No need to crush the ramshorns, well the angel might need smallish ones to get the idea. I think crunching up & spitting out the shells was half the fun for our firemouths.

Control is tricky but easier than eradication. I have loaches that love snails so I gave them pond snails. There aren't any in the tank but a few babies survived in the filter sponges. I don't mind a few.

Yup! And to answer your question in another thread about how to tell the apple snail species apart, its hard, you have to look at shell shape. The plant eating kind (canas) are very difficult to get in the US as they are a restricted species. I have pomacea bridgesii, which only eat decaying/dead plant matter, not healthy plants. I keep them in all my tanks all of which are planted. They will lay clutches above the water line, under your lights etc, that are about the size of a thumb and look like a cluster of grapes.

Yhank you, I am so excited about getting the brigs! those at least can be controled better  I love my rams horn, but I do see a population explosion coming. there lying egg sacks like no bodys buisness. but again its fish food right? So I will give some to my fish. this way we can still enjoy them, but not have way out of control numbers. as far as the trumpets, I will be passing these on this next month to who ever wants them. I have seen many adults now when I turn the lights on. off the will go to others who want for free.!
