Now this might not make sense to everyone, but here it goes. I live in a place in cali with very hard water, leading to lots and lots of calcium in my water. And i had heard about companies putting water softener resin in a canister filter with a bag. I just need some random input to convince myself that i won't kill my fish.

Would peat help? I'm not sure. Why would you want to rid it?

i mainly want to get rid of it because of the build up it gives me on the outside of my tank, and it recently clogged my bio wheels. (took a long soak in vinegar to remove)

I have access to ion exchange resin, which is used in residential water softners. and i have heard rumors of some companies putting the same stuff in some aquarium filters. It mainly removes calcium and magnesium. I've been told that most fish can't handle more than 20 or 30 grains of hardness per gallon. I know i have 10 grains. I was mainly wondering if it seem like a good idea.

I love using water conditioning media from my business for my aquarium. I already have been using carbon from my shop in my filter, it works awesome and costs my nothing. its actually pretty amazing.
