Ok... currently i have a 125 gallon freshwater. I wanna go for a FOWLR. I need to know what i need to buy just to get it going. I currently use 2 Emperor 400's for filtration and i have 2 200 watt Aqueon heaters.

How much live rock do i need to purchase just to get it going. I will add a few more pieces every couple of week. Will my HOBs work for filtration? I read something about using crushed coral inside the filters instead of the normal filter pads. Will that be acceptable?

I will be trading in my current freshwater fish to help with the costs at a local store.

Also, i have 2 Coralife 1x96 watt fixtures with 6700K bulbs. What bulbs do i need to replace the current ones with or will they work since im not getting any corals or anemones, atleast not for a while.

any help is greatly appreciated

<<The filters will do you fine untill a good ammount of live rock is in the tank. Ultimatly, you want to be aiming for around 125lbs + of live rock at the end. I would ensure that all filter media is replaced in the filters with new>>

<<As mentioned above, 125lbs is about the number you'd shoot for. However, this all depends if you want to be in a position to be able to ditch the filters and just use the live rock as the means of filtration. If you always intend on using these two filters, then it does not overly matter how much live rock is added in my opinion..Suppose it all depends on the visual aims of the tank>>

<<The lighting will be fine, it will only be there for your viewing pleasure as there will be nothing in the tank which is light dependant>>

Added some comments above in Red...Sounds like a great plan...Good luck !!

pretty much everything reefscape said should be good for you to start off, but let me tell you....its pretty expensive lol. your going to notice a large decrease in your bank account because if your not a quitter, once you go salt you'll never wanna go fresh again. although there are going to be some additional things youll eventually need. if i were you, id also not buy all of the LR at first if your going to keep in your filters. your going to need powerheads, protein skimmer, sump/refugeim, live sand or crushed coral, but i prefer sand because it looks so much nicer. coral wont buffer as fast as sand so it will last longer in the long run. those things you dont need right away, but will before you know it. i believe thats mostly what youll need. good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

I have the single version (600 gph) of this box and it is great. It always restarts, never has a bubble build up problem like some of the weirs do. Just buy a couple extra U tubes because if you plan on cleaning them, they are not the strongest things. I cracked one when I dropped it in my sink. But other than that it is the hang on overflow I recommend to anyone.
