Hey all,

I have been thinking about setting up a Refugium on my SW FOWLR soon to be adding a coral or two. Anyway I decided on a HOB Fuge because I have limited space under my tank. I was looking at substrates today and realized I have a lot of choices.

My question is, will a substrate like Miracle Mud or Mineral Mud makes a huge difference over regular sand? Miracle Mud says you only need a 1" sand bed while I would need 5"-6" with regular sand. Is there any truth to that? Any help would be great.

I keep my my fuge with a bare bottom, just one more option. If I were to have a substrate I'd use a DSB over the mud. The mud has to be replaced far too often for me to want to mess with.

:iagree: I do believe I read that it has to be replaced every 6 months. Right now I wouldn't even be able to tell you how I'd get something like that out of the refugium.
