OK, going to ask for an ID and your going to ask for a pic, so I'll apologise up front as this beggar is never out long enough to get a pic and is very very shy.
Bought him as a very young ancistrus at 1/2" long and did look like a dark one.
Well, he's grown from 1/2" to just under 4" in less than 6 months.
There certainy is no sign of the sighttest bristle and he's a funny rusty red colour.
Dorsal fin is almost a sail fin.
And his nose is very very round...
Any ideas what this pleco might be? Nose looks too round for a common, but think its going to be a big 'un!
And, sorry can't get a pic, soon as I walk in the room he scurries off.

sure it's not a female?
the color change is weird though, i'd say maybe a calico/marble bn because those are very reddish, but i think they are that color right from the start. and i guess the size too. . . mine took a couple years to get that big. very weird.

just looked up some pics, very similar but not the same
growth has been remarkable in comparison to ancistrus i bought at the same time in other tanks - they have grown from 1/2" to 1" in same time!!!
the significant difference from the pics is that the nose is rounder and dumpier on mine...

Carn't say without a pic but it doesn't sound like a BN.

I agree, doesn't sound like a bristlenose. They don't grow that fast!

Not one of the Chaestoma species? Did you look in Planetcatfish cat-elog?

Lupin, you da man!!!!
It looks like a "L187 - Chaetostoma pearsi" but a marbly red one or perhaps a "Chaetostoma platyrhynchus" but the description states the final size as 3.1" - this boy is already bigger than that!
or from this i wonder if its an l348..but red all over...http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=446
that would fit with the growth thing but i dont think i want a pleco that will get bigger than 10" in my 50g! oops!
I was thinking it could be Chaetostoma since I remember scrolling over to the category of those species and noticed their snouts are really round when compared to several other groups. Glad to be of help, Nick.:)
Would love some photos! I admire them.
