Hi Everyone,

For several months now i have slowly switched over my tank from RO water to tap water. I recently moved my fish tank so i had to drain it and refill it with all tap water.

I tested the water and found:
GH = 20
PH = 8.0-8.2

I am wondering if the tap i used is connected to our water softener. The water softener in our house is only supposed to be hooked up to hot water lines but maybe in the laundry room both are hooked up to the soft water.

So now i have a 30g filled with this water. In the tank are:
6 neons
3 harlequin rasboras
2 platties
4 cories
1 guppy

All of the fish seem fine.
What fish would you recommend for these kind of conditions?

Thanks,

Tara

Is that GH in PPM or degrees?

GH is in PPM

the tap water running through my softener is under 10 ppm GH and the pH is around 7.8-8.0 so sounds like it may be hooked up to those faucets...

there should not be a big problem though if your fish seem healthy. :)

That's good to hear.
Although when you look up what fish like there don't seem to be many that like soft water and a high PH - they all like soft and more neutral it seems. I'm wondering what fish i should add.

water conditions will not restrict the fish you want unless they are COMPLETELY uncompatible with what you have.

again, if the fish are fine, no need to even worry about it. it seems like they acclimated just fine and so new additions should not be a problem...

My dwarf rainbows are doing great in my water, which is very similar to yours, if not a little harder. I recently also switched to tap from RO, so I know your woes. Whats your kH?

The KH is high, i didn't write the exact number down...but i remember it being in the 'high' category.
