I noticed today my blood parrot is turning black on his fins. what the heck? My tests are
Amonia .....0
my nitrates...... 0
nitrates........ 5
hats this from?
Do you think it might be the tanins leaching. My driftwood does still leak some, but I do water changes ( 30% 2 times or 3 times a week, every other week 50% water change.

Are you sure it's not fin rot? Fins may appear brownish/darkish before they start crumbling. My first guess would have been possible ammonia burn but your water stats look normal.

Have you looked into Black Spot Disease? I've read that it mostly starts on their fins and moves throughout the body. It can be caused from stress, water conditions, or if they are of mating maturity, they are said to get this when they are ready to nest and mate. I haven't done all my research but mine has it too and most say to change the water and wait a few days for improvement..if nothing you can look into further medication/treatment that you can usually get at your LFS.

could be the blood parrots are changing into adult colors.
sometimes when you get them small(juvies) they are a different color than the adults. friend of mine has some and they were orange/red when he first got them and turned a duller color as adults. some turned green/black.

Yeah I agree Blood parrots can change especially sense they are hybrids. You really never know what a full grown BP is gonna look like.
