Ok so I just set up a new tank (29 gallon). My first salt water. I have 30 pounds of live sand and 25 pounds of live rock in there I noticed my canister filter (marineland c-220) was making a crackling noise so i figured there was some sand or something stuck in there. I opened it up and it is full with sandy water. Do i want to get rid of that water? Or just leave it in there?

Thanks for any help!

ok i reconnected the filter and it shot sand all into my water. So now my tank is very very cloudy. Should i leave the filter running? or should i let the sand settle and then put it back on so the process doesnt repeat?

I have that same filter, I don't know how sand got in it. Odd. But you should be able to run it with a cloudy tank.

Well when I put the live rock in the sand got kicked up a lot. I could barely see the live rock in the tank. So then the filter must have sucked all that sand out of the water before it could settle.

New sand bed will often take a couple of days to settle down.

Will be fine to keep running...A possible way the sand got i there is actually through the filter media...certainly not impossible.....keep filter media cleaned regular..

I ran mine when I put the sand in. It should be fine.
