Hello all,

We recently purchased fish about two weeks ago. We did what the seller told us to do. We put the bag in the tank water for about 30 mins to adjust the fish to the temp of the water. When we put them in they all seemed fine. Two days later, one fish had died. Then the next day another fish died. We thought all was going good but today I have had two fish die and the other two fish (which are goldfish) are either laying on the bottom of the tank not really moving, or hovering near the top of the water, not moving a lot. I noticed one fish have some white spots on the tail. I have removed both fish and put them into separate bowls with fresh water. But they still don't want to move alot. Are they going to die? If this is "Ick", are they treatable at this stage and if they are not, how do I clean the tank throughly so I get rid of the problem? My daughter loves her fish and she is getting really sad that they are all dying. Could someone please help. I am new at this and when we get some more fish in the future, I would like some basic care tips so this does not happen again. Thanks.

You have left a lot of important info out of your post. How long has the tank been running? Has it been cycled? What are your water parameters? Temp, PH, Nitrite, Ammonia, Nitrate at the minimum. What size tank is this? Have you Googled Ich to help diagnose the problem? Are you using a filter, airstone, other water agitating equipment? It's quite possible that the combo of improper cycling and improper acclimation has led your fish to have a lower ability to fight off infection, leaving them open to Ich. You need to identify the white spots. Are they salt sized white spots? Do they look like white slime? A quick Google of Ich or Freshwater fish disease should yield some photos, or you can post pictures here for ID help.

learn the basics and move from there.

as mentioned get a good test kit(API master is a good one to start with.
what size is the tanbk and what fish are in it(include numbers)

hang in there and good luck
