One of my cichlids has some kind of growths on his/her face, they keep getting bigger and I've not found anyone who can tell me what this is or caused from. All of my other cichlids in the tank are fine, and this one seems fine as far as eating, swimming and so forth. But the poor thing looks terrible, I don't know if I should put him out of his misery or what. Again he/she seems like they are not bothered by it, but I would hate to think it's in pain. My water is fine, 55 gal tank, weekly water changes, nothing abnormal in the tank conditions, all has been fine and all the other cichlids and my two pleco's are all well and happy. Here are a couple pictures to show you what I'm talking about. Sorry the glass was dirty and my flash on my camera did not make the pictures come out as well as I had hoped.
Any help or ideas on what this is or what is causing it, or a cure???

Thank you
Rene

my guess would be tumors (cancer).

Thank you wataugachicken, that is kind of what I had been thinking. I would guess that there isn't a cure for that :( Now I guess my question is should I put it down or let it live until I see it showing signs of distress. As I said so far it's eating fine and acts just as normal as it did before the tumors.
Thanks,
Rene

as long as the fish is still eating, acting normally, and otherwise enjoying life like any other fish would, I see no reason to put it down. Once it becomes difficult for it to find food and compete against tankmates, or if it just starts laying on the bottom all the time, then you should start to think about euthanasia.
