I have a 120gallon tank, and I plan on using a standard 55 gallon for my sump/refugium. This is my first large scale SW so I dont really have any experience using sumps, fuges, or even skimmers for that matter. Which leads me to my question:
The standard 55g seems to be 48 x 12 x 21 or close to that so it will fit no problem, I just wonder will i have problems if I need to do maintenance on the sump, like clean the skimmer out an what not. Having never used a skimmer I have no idea how far they stick out, or how large the actual cup that I would take of even is. My stand is 60inches long and just under 28inches high, however there is some trim that could get in the way I suppose. From the bottom of the tank to the start of the trim is 24inches. I can take pics if this seems confusing. In your opinions, will I have enough room to do whatever it is i'd need to do, or should I reconsider and get a different sump? If so, what then?
