I am going to inherit a 55g fish tank from my friend.
The specs are as follows
55 Gallon tank with black stand, lids, lights, AC500 filter, heater, gravel.
Jack Dempsey and an Oscar.
Is that filter enough?

Get another 500, I don't think they cost all that much. There are some AC lovers on here, they'd know better.
You'll get some flak about the stocking though, an Oscar shouldn't be in a tank that small.

ya most people would recomened at least a 75 for an oscar, ive kept a SINGLE oscar in a 55 with no gravel ( much easier to keep water clean ) and he does fine.

seeing as how 55g tanks are 12" wide, and oscars can grow to 14" or longer, it's really not ideal. you could keep the JD in there alone with no problems if you want to/can find a new home for the oscar ( or get another tank). more filtration is better, and make sure you're doing weekly water changes 30-50%.

ac 500 is now known as the ac 110. i would add a extra filter always like back ups.
yea i would be worried about the stocking levels too.

Im most likely going to get rid of those to fish by donating them to my lfs and making my tank a platy community.
