Hey now, I got a $250 digital SLR which I only know how to use as a point and shoot, so does that count? :P

Kodak Easyshare Z712 IS. Was around $250 when I bought it about a year ago, but they've come down to around $200 now, I think. It's certainly no Cannon or Nikon though.

SLR like is a camera that has some features that a DSLR has but it's not a DSLR

So what does this Kodak lack that disqualifies it for being called a digital SLR?

SLR Single Lens Reflex Camera
D-SLR is a Digital SLR

From the old Film camera days when you look through the view finder you actually look through the lens that takes the picture, not a secondary lens...

A true DSLR works the same way, you actually look at the image through the lens that will be used to take the picture, you see the image on a mirror inside the camera, when the shutter is released, the lens flips up, exposing the film, or in a DSLR, it exposes the Chip to the image...

In fact you can look through the viewfinder on a DSLR when it is turned off, and still see the image...

Not to mentionthe removable lenses, and flashes, and all of the advanced settings and options..
