it looks like a dot with 4 legs swaying in the breeze.. I found several of them in my tank. What the heck could they be? I could not get a pic, but I do hope someone here can tell me whats going on and how to get rid of these things.
there in my 10 gallon ramshorn, platy tank.

How big? Color? Consistency? Swimming around or sessile?

If it is jellylike and has a short body attached to the glass or other surface, it is a Hydra. If it is round and swims in jerking motions or rests motionless against the glass, it is a cladoceran such as Daphnia. Or it could be something else; sorry, without pics or more info it's hard to say.

I tried to get a pic :( they are to small. they look like little white dots with 4 legs not moving around, so much as just floaty.

so far no on the cladoceran, or daphnia not sure about hydra, what do they look like?

They are transparent or translucent, and can be tinted brown white or green. They are a polyp, sort of like coral polyps if you're familiar with those. Usually there is a short tubular body and four or more longer tentacles at one end.

Here is a pretty typical one. This one is budding off a new polyp.

ok, looking for an answer ......... how do I get rid of these? I did a gravel vack, which I do every few days any ways.

It's a hydra. Really not harmful except very small organisms like daphnia and protists.

Now how to get rid of them. Cut back on the amount that you feed. I also believe that cory's will eat them. I know that my pleco will eat them.

Makes you wonder how it got in there - added new plants/fish/live food lately?
