A children's museum we went to has a cichlid tank with yellow labs. I noticed little white dots on the gill covers. They look a bit like the dots male goldfish get in breeding season, but all the fish have them. Is this likely to be ich or another disease? Or something normal for the species?
ich will appear like the fish was sprinkled with salt..
if the 'white' spots appear raised..like sprinkles of salt..then start looking at treatment.
many raise the temp a bit as this helps the ich life cycle out(speeds it up a bit)
add salt ot other alternative treatments.
if there are live plants..remove them. most plants don't fare well with the treatment.
