 The Devil made me do it!:eek3:

I will have quality pics and maybe video if I can figure out this on my camera.

I do not want to have any animal activist shooting over this so I will let it up to you all here to decide weather or not this is something you want to see.

I believe I would feel some kind of way if someone was feeding Angels to a large animal, so again it is all up to you all.

I will post pics on 3/23/08 Easter Sunday around 8 pm est.

I'll wait for your feedback.

Thanks,

Old Head/Pa.

I believe he posted to see if there was interest because of a different thread. In that thread, he added ghost shrimp to his angel tank and people requested a video/pictures of the angels hunting the shrimp.

If its watching something like my Bichirs or Ctenopoma Acutirostre hunting their feeders or shrimp I'm all for it.

Maybe if you explained better what the video would entail you'd get better reactions.

IMO posting videos of live feedings "glorify" the act. I personally don't get any satisfaction from watching one animal eat another.

Although I'd rather you box up the shrimp and ship them to me, I'd like to watch it. I don't enjoy seeing them get eaten, I just want to see what the angels look like hunting them in a vid.

My angels hunt my red cherry shrimp all the time. They almost got one while I was watching this morning. I didn't know the angels would hunt them when I put them in the tank it just worked out that way. I don't see anything wrong with fish hunting live food. If they do it in the wild then what's so wrong about them doing it in our fish tanks. I only see a problem with someone getting pleasure out of watching one fish tear apart another live fish. Seems a bit deviant.

I agree....This is not really something to be posting on the forum..Its done (live feeding) because some people feel a need to and they think its best for their fish...but, its not best for the forum...Videos of this kind of thing being shown is best left on Youtube.com or another video site..

Thanks...

I'm no vegetarian. I wouldn't want to watch a video of me eating either. ;)

This is a board for people who love shrimp. I can tell you I won't be grabbing my popcorn and tuning in.

I am a vegetarian and I love my little shrimpies...... The difference is in the wild they have to do it to stay alive but we as the 'proud owners' can feed them without hunting being necessary.... I know this is just my opinion but I thought this was a hobby not a blood sport.....

Great response,

I apologize to all the shrimp lovers and anyone who was offended by what I posted.
We have started a shrimp tank and expect to stock it sometime next week with a few ghost shrimp, lots and lots of live plants.

On the flip side of things , what i was offering was nothing more than what you may see on a National Geographic program, or old school Cousteau film.
When I posted "shrimp on the run", I got a few request for video .

We could debate this subject but I do not believe it would be productive.

Thank You All for sharing!

I feel though that some people like to study fish behavior and feeding is part of it, all of us cant go into the wild to watch the fish do there thing so a tank has to work and if people share it helps.

I think there is a difference here, he is not dropping a live goldfish in a tank full of pirinahs for them to devour. He is asking if anyone is interested in watching a vid where the anglefish are looking for the ghost shrimp. He is not necessarily "feeding" the angels.

put it up on youtube, and post a link if you like, I am sure it will get several responses anyway.

Watching an angel masacare a group of shrimp in a glass cage is not going to tell you very much about their behavior or feeding in the wild. Especially given that the shrimp and angels are from two different areas of the world.

I see your point. BUT i think fish should exercise the Natural hunting skills. Cichlids and a hunting type fish in some respect right? Would that be the same as putting a mirror in front of a betta so that they can do their thing. I had a fly in the house and swatted it. It was still alive but injured. SO i put it in the fish tank. My little tetras and danios went wild over it. Was this bad of me. I don't think so. It was actually fun to see them guyies acting a fool over an injured fly. That i think is nature, with a little help from me. I say post the vid I would like to see it.

Natural hunting skills... for what? It's not like you're going to release them into the wild, where they have to fend and hunt for themselves.

I'm just starting to think that people are trying to scrounge up lame excuses to justify needless death for the sake of entertainment. I say needless because there are flake foods or already-made frozen foods available. And as Carlyleigh stated before, "The difference is in the wild they have to do it to stay alive but we as the 'proud owners' can feed them without hunting being necessary."

There's a difference between NEEDING to hunt and hunting just for the heck of it.

Post on cichlids ... or something.

Could a mod maybe move this to the Cichlid forum? I think there'd be a lot different responses there...

For those of you saying that there are already-made foods availible: All of those foods are made from fish. Lots of shrimp meal (dead shrimp), fish meal (dead fish) and squid meal (dead squid) in those. I see no reason to shoot someone down when they want to share their fish's hunting capibilities. I like seeing movies of fish eating fish, but only if there's no lunatic in the background laughing or an intro like "WATCH MA BIG KILLER FISHEE". As long as it's done for the health & activity of the fish, and not for fun, I see nothing wrong with it. Posting it in the shrimp forum, however, wasn't the best move (maybe post it somewhere where there aren't a bunch of shrimp fans?).

About 20 lbs after you have removed the heads.

I will pay for your time, ice and FedEx.

PPf: please note that #8's are approximately the same size as small lobsters.

Post on cichlids ... or something.
Folks:

I may have lost it here. My comments are based on significant research, biology courses from 36 years ago and current experience.

IMHO purchased feeder fish are NG as no telling what they could induce to an otherwise healthy tank.

This may sound simplistic but big fish eat smaller fish and enjoy doing so.

I have two Koi angels, two Black angels and a trio of guppies in my main tank as well as "cover" floating plants. Except for when I feed the angels hang out immediately below the floating plants hunting for groceries. Is this behavior or very similar behavior not exhibited in the wild?

If we placed some Bambi's in the Lion Den @ the local zoo do you not think this would cause major upset ..... We know what fish and animals do in the wild this does not mean we choose to watch it. Creatures eating other creatures is not entertainment and should not be treated as such....

I don't believe that this is teaching us how creatures behave in the wild either because lets face it inverts in the wild are not placed in a confined space with no means of escape only to wait for impending death....

I don't mean to rag on the guys who feed live bait that is purely their choice ... I just mean that most of the guys using this particular forum keep inverts for pleasure and don't wish to see them eaten alive....
