So, I really like the little bamboo plants and was thinking of adding some to my betta tanks....does anyone have some in there tank? Does it do well, is it hard to maintain?????

If you mean "Lucky bamboos", those aren't aquatic plants.

I have seen them fully submerged in fish tanks at the pet stores. That is just wrong, in my opinion. I have a bamboo plant and though they like their roots wet, the leaves and stems must be in air. I would not recommend putting them in a betta tank. It'll just dirty up the water. I keep my bettas and my bamboo plants separate. :)

yes... those "bamboo" plants are really not bamboos at all, but rather a species of Dracanea, and are native to the rainforests of central Africa. they are technically terrestrial plants who like damp environments and do best planted in damp soil. they can grow partially submerged in water but grow best as terrestrial houseplants.

I have one (not fully submerged) in Senor Rojo's bowl. It's doing fine, I occasionally add ferts when I have extra in the cap from my tank dose, but it has thrived in the conditions.

You might recognize one of these plants better with its leaves; They're stripped to the stalk to make them look like a bamboo shoot.

It would probably last a LONG time in your aquarium, but I doubt it will do much growing, and it will almost definitely eventually die. I could see it looking neat but I'd say go with something fake since this isn't going to really be "living" too well anyway. Fake won't need to be replaced, and this stuff grows just about as slow as any plant I've seen.

Alrighty then....I guess I wont add it:)!! They just look really cool and have seen them in tanks in pics and stuff, but from the way it sounds, I will not even attempt to add one.

Thanks everyone!! I will be adding plants, most likely vals and or other plants that I know will work in an aquarium.
