He is a very small antennea lion.I got him yesterday and yes they were feeding him goldfish and guppies..I got him to take a bite of silverside this morning but he lost intrest very quickly so I am going to keep working with him.He wont touch krill.I love him already and wonted to share pics of him.
Off to a scary start.. .. not bad scary, just don't stick your hand near him scary. When I had a lion it never ate krill at all... actually, I could never get any fish or eel to eat krill. Don't know why. I would stick with the others you mentioned, silversides or other meaty things. Use a feeding stick and shake it slowly near him to make it seem like it is alive.. try and release it when he shows interests and hope he "vacuums" it in. If not, just pick up the food that fell and try again. My suggestion anyway. Congrats on your first fish in your 55G. Just be VERY careful with your hands in the tank. I am sure you know that, but just had to say it.
I am going to wean him if it kills me.lol..I changed my 55 from fresh to salt because I had a gar that only ate live and we have 1 pet store in the county and they rarely had rosey reds for him to eat it just got to much work trying to keep him stocked with foods I wont the lion on prepared so that it is as easy as feeding both tanks from the same dish and done..lol
He's beautiful, but lionfish still scare me. I used to work for an aquarium maintenance service, and the jerk training me thought it would be funny to tell the new guy "Just flick your sponge at him. He'll go away."
I barely got my hand out of the way in time. :angryfire:
But, like I wrote, you have a pretty one there. Good luck acclimating him.
