Hi all,
found one of my clowns to have bulging eyes, also a dottyback has damage to one eye. All fish dont seem very happy.
I did a 25% water change yesterday (ro/salt mix), and added a small pulsing coral and a slug.
Tank has been up and running for about 4 months now. This is my first problem.
The tank is a 60 litre (13-14gallons)
I have 2 shrimps, 2 crabs, 2 snails, 2 sea slugs, 2 clowns, a dwarf flame angel , a dottyback, 2 scooter blennies, an aneneme, a mushroom coral and a small pulsing coral.
Nitrite 0.1
Nitrate 5
Phosphate 0
PH 8.1
Ammonia 0.1
Salt level 1.026

is it just one eye or both of them?? my clown had one eye bulging...it's called pop-eye. i think it's caused by a bacterial infection, but there's not much you can do for it. he got over it, but it took a couple of weeks.

Sounds like Popeye to me. It could be your fish have been fighting and injured each other. popeye is a symptom, not an actual disease. The scientific name, exopththalmia, refers to swelling behind or in the eye. The swelling may be brought on by many factors but is most commonly caused by bacteria. It's difficult to treat and tends to heal over a period of time and good water conditions. Popeye may signal the need for a massive water change and better attention to water quality. I'd say your bio load is way to much for that sized tanks and your params are showing that. I'd remove the affected fish to a QT and cut down on your stock. Your tank is too new and too small for one dragonet let alone two, same goes for the anemone, and too small for the angel.

I forgot to mention that one of my slugs got sucked onto a powerhead and cut it in places.:wall:
I have been to the lfs to ask for :help: today.
They say it will be toxins from the slug:devil:, and to remove the slug immediatley and do a major water change.
They have given me some activated carbon and some treatment also which is supposed to help against stress.
Hopefully this will sort out my problems and save my tank from disaster.:)

I completely agree with this post.

In my opinion, if your LFS let your purchase all of those fish for a 12 gallon tank they won't give you good advice on treating them either.

Completely agree. The angel shouldn't even be in that tank even if it were the only fish. Sounds like you've really had some unfortunate advice given to you from the employees there Leesst

To save your tank the water changes and carbon is good...but what it really needs a serious re-evaluation and rehoming much of that stock.
