The Ecosystem Aquarium filter looks like a refugium. I'm not sure that it would be a good candidate for a planted tank. If you are planting plants in the refugium, then they are just going to be using the nutrients that your plants in the tank need. If you are going to use co2, then they will cause it to dissipate to rapidly to be used by the plants. In my opinion a regular cannister filter is best for a planted tank, depending on the size. Ehiem is my favorite, some like the Magnums, others the Fluvals. There are many other things to consider. How big of a tank. Low light tanks are less of a hassle to maintain. High light tanks need co2 injection and strict fertilizer regimens, but there are more options for plants and they grow faster. Read the stickies at the top of this forum.
