well, i was out of town for a week, but i had someone to come by and feed my tank. however, i still lost a fish while i was gone :( i used to have a blue damsel and a firefish goby, and now i just have the goby. i have no clue what happenned to the damsel, as he was healthy as a horse (at least from what i could tell) when i left. i've been home for about 4.5 hours now, and still haven't seen him, and there are no remains that i can see in the tank (but there are plenty of places he could have died that i just can't see). so now i just have one fish, but thankfully he doesn't have ich (yoo hoo!), and i hope to keep it that way. all my inverts did fine in my absence, and the random polyps i got on some live rock seem to be doing just fine as well, so i wonder what happenned to my damsel???? oh well, i'll never know, but at least my goby is ok, i really like him. he's got a lot of personality and his colors are pretty striking. hoepfully i won't wake up one morning and he's suddenly missing...:lipssealedsmilie:

Sorry to hear about losing your fish.
Have you checked your water parameters, esp. ammonia?

Sorry for your loss - any chance he jumped?

Is there any chance you might have an unwanted critter from your live rock that could be a fish killer?
I'd have guessed the firefish would have been lost before the damsel. Sorry it was either.

thanks for the condolences (sp?) guys. there's no way he could have jumped, as i have a very tight-fitting lid. however, i think i did hear a click come from the tank a little while ago. it might have been the television, or just some other noise, but maybe i have a mantis...yikes! i haven't heard the click again, so it might have just been my imagination, but i'm definitely going to keep my eyes peeled. and i agree with you, grins...i figured that if i were to lose one it would be the firefish long before the damsel. i have hermits and i haven't heard any excessive clicking from a mantis trying to crack their shells, so we'll just have to see...it's still quite the mystery.

Did you check that dog's breath? Terriers are quick, you know.

haha, alpha. you are right about terriers...lightening quick, but no, it wasn't the dog, she was out of town with me when it happenned. but her breath sure is bad enough to have eaten a whole bunch of damsels.....p-u. haha. she does like to sit in the recliner with me and watch the fish as they swim around in the tank. it's pretty funny actually.
