View Full Version : Cat owners, I have a question for ya
Hey, we have a cat that had an accident in the carpet a while back. Now we are having problems keeping him away from that spot. We have tried using baking powder to soak up the pee, and using a vinegar/soap solution, with wet/dry vaccuming, in order to clean the area. Any other ideas to help de-ordorize and make it an area he won't like instead of his box? Any suggestions or comments will be helpful.
Thanks in advance and wishing this was a cat-fish :wall: instead,
Mr. U

Well I've never had this problem before with my cat I've heard feeding them in the spot will help stop them from coming back to that area. I mean would you want to go back. and for the smell I used Resove for Pet Stains when house-training. Hope that works!:)

my mom has had good luck with using orange peels on spots, for some reason cats don't like the citrusy smell and won't go pee there.

We've used a product called "Wee-Wee" made by Four Paws that works amazingly well.

My work sells something too for pee, comes with one of those lights so you can see where it is. I think its called "PEEGONE" or something along the lines of that, at bed bath and beyond.

I've used Frebreeze and a good soaking with that seems to work. I've also used the Carpet Fresh for pets and that seems to work as well.

No cats here but look for a product called Nature's Miracle. Petsmart and other pet stores should carry it...white container with red lettering comes in a variety of sizes. It breaks up the enzymes in the urine helping to remove the scent better than a product that masks it ever could hope to.

I think that is what the Wee Wee does also (at least according the bottle:D).

Soak the spot with Nature's Miracle or Simple Solutions to get rid of the smell, and then put double stick tape over the spot to break the habit. Cats don't like anything sticky on their feet.

I would put a large Rotweiler on the spot where the cat pee'd. The cat most likely wouldn't return to that area for a while.
what?!? It should work!

Resolve has done wonders for me too... I would also suggest Bitter Apple from Petsmart... it's in the same aisle as Natures Miracle.

Zig, obviously you are not a cat owner. Sticking a Rott in that spot would not only cause an ordinary cat to dirty it's pants at the sight of the dog, but the cat would just pee in another area out of protest :headshake2:
Besides, we have a pit-lab which this cat dominates, so I doubt this cat would be affected by the presence of a dog in "his spot". :wall:
Thanks all for your suggestions. We have used "Wee Wee" in the past, and that work very well. Our lfs doesn't stock that anymore. I meant to say we used baking soda, not "baking powder" to draw out the moisture. If anyone is getting any help from this thread, please beware of using the Frebreeze suggestion-on white carpet, it seems to leave a dark patch.
And if anyone took Lady G seriously, please remember that this is an area in the hallway that I need to clean up. I need to be able to walk through this area without worrying about stepping on stick pins in the middle of the nigh! Anyone with kids and small toys like Jacks would understand this kind of hazard. :grinyes:
Thanks a bunch,
Mr. U

I usually just use a spray bottle and squirt the cat with water when he doesn't behave, after a while he gets it. But.... if you're out when the cat does it try using double stick tape in that area (they hate that) or tape a piece of tin foil in the spot, they also don't like walking on tin foil.
Good luck :)

tin foil is a good trick. I used to have a cat that looooooved using house plants for his own personal spot. I lined the tops of the dirt each with tin foil and immediately, the habit was broken. If you do go this route though, I would think you need it raised just so slightly so it crinkles when he walks on it. Be careful too, he may simply choose to go next to the tin so you'd need to have a good piece to cover the spot well enough.

Cats wetting out of the litter box could be a sign of a urainary track infection, you might want to have a urinalysis done to check that out. Any of the pet carpet cleaners should work in removing the odor.

ive had that problem with my cats. 2 solutions have ended this.
1. its prolly a urinary tract infection as said above, feed em a food/vitamins or go see a vet for it.
2. Spray bottle or a good smack on the butt, loud yelling works as well.
(may sound cruel but hey, it makes em stop!)
