Hello everyone,
Just a quick question. What is meant by closed loop? I have been planning a sump project and stumbled across this term while reading old posts.
Thanks,
Al

a closed loop is just that its a loop of water movement that doesn't get filtered it runs in one pipe and out many others. it eliminates the need for power heads in the tank looks like this (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2301/2079185823_8cb0efd062.jpg?v=0)

Yeah, it is difficult to describe. The picture explains more than anything.

I built out a closed loop in an effort to replace the power heads that were not very friendly to my anemone. I also implemented a scwd (wave type device) to alternate the flow between the outputs. The problem was that to accomplish the 2400gph I was getting from my Koralia 4's I would have to have a rather expensive pump. I had aquired a mag 9.5 and it just wasn't the type of flow I wanted. I ended up using it for my sump. In summary, I like a closed loop alot better than the power heads, it's cleaner and better in appearance. However the bang for the buck isn't the same to me.
